The main trail incorporates a mix of asphalt and gravel surfaces with great views. There’s also a number of off-trails that offer more of a trail running experience through the deeper woods. Love this place!
Very calming trail with little to no traffic at 7pm.
We rode from the I70 park and ride into Baltimore and then took the Jones Falls Trail up to Mt Washington and then back to I70.
While the Jones Falls Trail seems relatively well maintained, the Gwynns Falls Trail was not. Especially from the Carroll Park Golf Course to Edmonson Ave. There were at least 4 fallen trees laying across the trail that I believe had been there for a number of weeks based on reports from other riders. All sorts of debri covered the trails including tons of broken glass. And there's literally mountains of trash and dumped household items all along the trail.
The top part of the trail including the gravel sections were beautiful and I feel most of the trail could be a wonderful experience if it were better maintained and cleaned up.
Wonderfully scenic but woefully in need of maintenance. Congress cuts National Park Service funding so rich people don’t have to pay taxes.
Only did part of the trail from Herndon to Reston. Just watch out for the ‘Lance Armstrong’ wanna bees. Most of them do alert they are coming to your left, so stay to your right and you should be ok.
The map gave us the start of the trail. But, it was in a neighborhood and there was no parking at all.
I enjoyed this loop in 2016 or so and just learned it has a name. Nice mix of environments with plenty of available lunch or coffee stops and scenic waterfront, linear greenway and wooded areas. Some spots were challenging, even dicey then, and I would expect they’ve been improved if this is a designated path.
Its train inspired playground is a fan favorite in my family. It also has a nice 9 hole frisbee golf course. It has a bathroom.
It took just over 90 minutes. What a great time!
This trail has everything except length. Great scenery, smooth surface, friendly vibe, and quirky, historic Ellicott City with a wide selection of shops and restaurants. The trolley right of way has a decent grade, ensuring a good workout going uphill. This has my vote for the RTC trail Hall of Fame.
Rode from Mt Vernon toward DC , 16 miles out and back with temps in high 40s in mid December, midweek. Love this trail! Beautiful views of Potomac; nice variety of flat and hilly terrain through urban and forested areas. Impressed by “bike patrol” checking in on my stop. 4 star review due to tree root bumps (mostly marked), and close proximity to Memorial High ( constant humming of cars passing).
